The Way Back – Drama
Category – Movie
Content – Jack was a high school basketball player that took his team to the Championships. But he chose to walk away from the game. Years later, with a tragic event holding over his head, he has become an alcoholic. The alcohol numbs the pain of his tragedy that he cannot deal with. But an unlikely proposition may be exactly what he needs. To coach his old team and teach the kids about this sport. Reluctantly, Jack accepts the position, and finds out that these boys would teach him just as much as he teaches them. Although he struggles with the alcohol throughout the film, his work with the team and basketball actually prepares him to finally deal with the truth. I liked that this movie doesn’t have the fairy tale ending, the ending is potent and real. It really makes this movie have meaning. This scores an 8.5 out of 10.
Acting – By far one of Ben Affleck’s best dramatic roles. While the action and superhero movies are fun, this one was real. Many people struggle with addiction in real life (including Mr Affleck) and tragedy, and the fight to overcome it all. Ben’s portrayal of Jack did all of that in a way that people can relate to. Definitely a worthy performance! Score is 9 out of 10.
Duration – 1 hr 48 mins. Dramatic movies tend to be at the two hour mark, and this is no exception. Although a tad slow at times, this movie flows well and will keep your attention. This gets a 8 out of 10.
TOTAL INDEX for The Way Back – 25.5 out of 30
Recommended Watch – Another good watch with Ben Affleck. I would suggest everyone give this a go!
OSCAR BUZZ – While I am not sure Ben will see Oscar love with this role for Best Actor, IF he does I would agree!!! This was some of his best work to date.
