Content – Subtitled in French, this movie is about the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Fabienne is a famous actress who publishes a book of her memoirs; however, when her daughter Lumir reads the book, she questions her mothers truth. Her mothers reaction – Her memories, so it was her choice what went into her book. The dynamic between these two is explained throughout this film, especially while Fabienne is filming a new movie. This new movie she is filming is about a mother that cannot grow old, but her daughter does. Through this film, Fabienne seems to understand more about her own daughter than she ever did before. Although, her truth still might not agree with her daughter’s. This scores a 6 out of 10.
Acting – Watching the relationship between Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche unfold in French is captivating. These two iconic actresses are perfect together, no matter if the scene is filled with anger or understanding. There are truly a pleasure to watch. Ethan Hawke is also in the film, as a lower rate actor and husband to Lumir. He is a good supporting actor to Juliette. And French actress Clementine Grenier plays the couples daughter, who shines in her role. Seemingly newcomer Manon Clavel also does a great job playing the lead actress of the film Fabienne is in. All together, this is absolutely wonderful acting. Score is 9 out of 10.
Duration – 1 hr 46 min. Dramas tend to be a bit longer than action films, and this is no exception. While the movie’s content is good, it does tend to drag on a little. This gets a 6.5 out of 10.
