The Silence – Thriller, Horror
Category – Movie
Content – Life is getting back to somewhat normal for Ally, as s senior in high school who tragically lost her hearing three years prior. She lives with her parents, little brother and grandmother. Strange events begin to broadcast on their TV one night. So the family, along with life long friend Glenn, pack up and head north to get out of the city and into quiet territory. While on the road, Ally investigates the events and quickly finds out these creatures called Vesps are inhabiting the country, and eating anything they can hear. Entire cities and regions are being destroyed. Further investigation by her father, Hugh, learns that these creatures can hear but they cannot see. Since Ally’s accident, the entire family has adapted to living in silence. Through their sign language, they maneuver their way to a house for protection. There are many tragic mishaps along the way that this film must endure. While along the lines of Quiet Place, this film was actually more intriguing to watch. I enjoyed the storyline and the way the film continued to move forward. I was pleasantly surprised by the horror creature film, definitely a good and fun watch. This scores a 8.5 out of 10.
Acting – Everyone’s acting in this film was solid. Hugh is played by Stanley Tucci, a favorite of mine I must admit. He rarely performs in dramatic and thrilling roles, but he fit this one well. The newly deaf Ally is played by Kiernan Shipka (of the new Sabrina Teen Age Witch fandom). Definitely a solid performance by this young actress, I cannot wait to see her in more roles. Other notable actors are Miranda Otto, Kate Trotter, Kyle Breitkopf and John Corbett. Score is 8.5 out of 10.
Duration – 1 hr 30 min. Another 90 minute horror film, they get it right when they keep these short and sweet. You can take only take so much horror and scares out of one film, when filmmakers can keep them around 90 minutes, they are doing something right! This gets a 8 out of 10.
