The River Wild

The River Wild – Action, Adventure
Category – Movie (1994)

Content – Gail is preparing for the yearly river rafting excursion that the family goes on every year. But for another year, Gail’s husband Tom, says he cannot go on the family trip. Angry, Gail heads out with her son Roarke. While buying the rafting tags, they meet Wade and Terry, who are also going down the river with a guide. To Gail’s huge surprise, Tom shows up (with his laptop and work in toe) and wants to go on the trip. The three head out on the river with Maggie, the yellow lab. A very odd situation arises when the three are surprised by Wade and Terry, who say their guide disappeared and now they are alone on the river, with no experience. Reluctantly, Gail agrees to help them get to the last point, Bridle Creek. But Wade has other intentions and soon this beautiful river rafting trip becomes a game of survival. Wade and Terry destroy their boat, try and kill Tom and Maggie (both run for their lives) and inform Gail she is going beyond Bridal Creek, where the rapids are beyond treacherous. In an effort to save her son, Gail takes charge over the two criminals and the river. This one is one heck of a ride! This scores a 9 out of 10.

Acting – The woman in charge is played by Meryl Streep. Not much more to say about this iconic actress, she is flawless in every project she does. Her family is played by David Strathairn and Joseph Mazzello (who was just in Bohemian Rhapsody). Our criminals are played by Kevin Bacon and John C Reilly. The big surprise here is Kevin Bacon playing the bad guy. Our Footloose star actually plays this role with ease, just solidifying that he can really play any character and do it very well! Even Maggie the dog the good! Score is 9 out of 10.

Duration – 1 hr 51 min. All the action and treacherous water scenes keep this movie flowing well. This gets a 8 out of 10.

TOTAL INDEX for The River Wild – 26 out of 30

Recommended Watch – Whether you are a Meryl Streep or Kevin Bacon fan, if you haven’t seen this one, you should rent it immediately. It is a WILD ride!!!
