The Little Things

The Little Things – Crime, Thriller
Category – Movie

Content – Another crime thriller film with Denzel Washington at the helm. Except this time he has Rami Malek as his sidekick partner type. Joe Deacon lives in the desert and is a regular cop. But a trip to grab evidence from downtown LA pulls him back into a homicide investigation. He unofficially helps Jim Baxter to discover clues and attempt to find a suspect in the killings of several women. When they come across the unusual Albert Sparma, the movie takes a weird turn. While both men are convinced Sparma is their man, I was not so convinced. He is definitely an unusual character that likes reading about police investigations and seriously begins toying with both detectives. In the end, you are left with the question of whether or not Sparma really is the killer. The movie is never really clear, I suppose unanswered questions bodes for a sequel? Or prequel maybe??? All in all, this was another serial killer film with a couple short comings. This scores a 6 out of 10.

Acting – You don’t watch this film for the content, the story has been done hundreds of times. You watch because Denzel Washington and Rami Malek are pros at their professions and they pull you into their investigation. Both actors are so solid in their filmmaking that you cannot go wrong to hire either. AND you watch this movie for Jared Leto, who is mesmerizing as Sparma. Another dark character for Leto that he pulls off with perfection. Just another Stellar dark performance. These three are fascinating to watch together. I would BEG for a prequel to get more Sharma! Score is 9 out of 10.

Duration – 2 hrs 7 mins. Yes it is a long one, but the investigation like this takes time to get through. I would have watched more of the interaction between the three leading men working their magic on screen together. This gets a 8 out of 10.

TOTAL INDEX for The Little Things – 23 out of 30

Recommended Watch – You watch this movie to see Denzel, Rami and Jared do their dance together. Not for the story, but for them.

OSCAR BUZZ – The performances are great, especially from Jared Leto. But does it bode enough for Awards love? I’m really on the fence about this one at this point. We shall see.
