The Karate Kid – Drama
Category – Movie (1984)
Content – For my first tbt review, I would like to remind everyone about The Karate Kid. A classic 80’s flick where Daniel moves to California with his mom and must begin a new life. He is quickly bullied by a bunch of Cobra Kai karate kids led by Johnny. Confused and frustrated, he doesn’t learn the way of life until he meets Mr. Miyagi. He teaches Daniel that karate is for defense only. Although frustrated by this, Daniel learns about karate and life through Miyagi. “Wax on Wax off” is probably the most popular line from this movie! It came out in 1984, and it still one of my all time favorites! This scores a 9 out of 10.
Acting – Ralph Macchio and William Zabka lead the students with Elisabeth Shue and Martin Kove in close toe. The acting is great, it is classic 1980’s. High school, the love triangle, the meaning of life. We get it all through the late and great Pat Morita. Special note – RIP Rob Garrison who played “Tommy” and who passed away in Sept 2019. Scores a 8 out of 10.
Duration – 2 hrs 6 mins. You don’t even notice that this classic is over 2 hours long. It flows nice and the action between all the students keeps the movie going. If you haven’t seen it, watching Mr. Miyagi teach Daniel keeps you intrigued as to what he is going to do next! This gets a 8 out of 10.

Recommended Watch – The next time this is on TNT or whatever free network, give it another watch. It never gets old. ALSO, you can watch the cool new series Cobra Kai, which actually follows these characters many years later and is also fantastic!!!
