Only The Brave

Only the Brave – Drama
Category – Movie

Content – This is a true story about 20 elite firefighters who work hard to become certified “Hot Shots.” They tackle brush fires and live by the code “Hold the Line.” They call themselves the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Because this story is true, this movie is incredibly intense. All of these men have back stories and families, wives that love them and children that depend on them. Once they become Hotshots, they are the elite firefighters and travel the country to be on the front line of the fires. This causes a lot of tension with families and the movie shows how dramatic fear of the unknown can be. I didn’t know the real life story of these brave men, so watching this movie made me very emotional. I live in an area where brush fires and evacuations have become common, so it hit all too close to home. The incredible tragic ending due to the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013 had me in tears. All I can say is, what an intense and emotional film, and something everyone should see. This scores a 9 out of 10.

Acting – There are some serious heavy hitters in this film. Josh Brolin plays the knowledgeable and heavy Supervisor Eric Marsh. He leads this group of men with incredible drive. Jeff Bridges plays the local fire chief. Miles Teller is Brendan McDonough, a down on his luck kid who takes a chance on becoming a firefighter for his new daughter. And Jennifer Connelly plays Mrs Marsh, who is emotional and loving. The ensemble cast (which also includes Taylor Kitsch, James Badge Dale and many others) is outstanding in this film and everyone did an amazing job!!! Scores a 9 out of 10.

Duration – 2 hrs 14 mins. Although this movie is a bit long, the story plays so well that you barely notice. An emotionally intense film should take a little more time to draw the audience in. There is a lot to portray, especially when it is a true story. A filmmaker would not want to leave out key moments. This gets a 8 out of 10.

TOTAL INDEX for Only the Brave – 26 out of 30.

Recommended Watch – Absolutely! Watch and pay tribute to the brave firefighters that risk their lives to save ours in times of need. A MUST see film!!!
