Most Wanted – Crime Thriller
Category – Movie
Content – Inspired by true events, journalist Victor Malarek begins to investigate the suspicious imprisonment of a heroin addict in a Thai prison. Daniel Leger meets Picker in a low point in his life, as he is simply a heroin addict, and Picker includes him in his boat charter business and they become partners. Picker introduces him to Frank, who wants to score a bunch of drugs in Thailand. Reluctantly, Daniel agrees to help these drug lords score the drugs. They pay his way and all expenses to Thailand and join him there to finish the deal. But this deal is completely not what it seems, as Frank and his team are all Canadian police. The entire drug deal is a scam, with Picker being in the middle and deceiving everyone. The Canadian police needed a huge bust to move up in the ranks. And in the process, a seemingly innocent addict ends up in a Thai prison for many years. Thank goodness for journalist Victor who can see through these discrepancies and investigates these shady circumstances. Although he gets stone walled many times, he doesn’t give up to find the truth. The scary drama of this movie is that it is inspired by true events, this really happened and the accused spent almost 10 years in prison for something he really didn’t do. While this movie is an incredible story, the timeline is muffled throughout the film. You really have to watch this one all the way to the end for the movie to come together, as it can be somewhat confusing before then. This scores a 7.5 out of 10.
Acting – The acting in this film is pretty solid. Antoine Olivier Pilon plays Daniel Leger – I haven’t heard of this actor before but he does a compelling job as a heroin addict. Jim Gaffigan plays Picker, and although this actor is known for his hilarious comedy, he does a remarkable job playing a bad guy too. I’m not sure how many comedians could pull off playing a really shady character? Stephen McHattie heads the Canadian police in this scam, and does a great job in deceiving everyone on Operation Goliath. And the huge surprise is Josh Hartnett, who’s compassion for helping an addict is captivating. I believe Josh is proving that his acting chops are only getting better with age. Score is 8.5 out of 10.
Duration – 2 hrs 5 min. Yes this is a long movie and again, the timeline doesn’t flow exactly right, but comes together at the end. So you just have to watch! This gets a 8 out of 10.
