Category – Movie

Content – Joel and Aimee are your typical teen agers in love. Until…the world becomes infested with overgrown critters, like snails and centipedes. They are huge and out to kill everything that comes in their path. So those that have survived become inhabitants underground, out of the sun and fresh air. And heartbreaking, Joel and Aimee get separated. Their only means of communication is by radio. After years of this type of sheltered life, the scared Joel decides to make the dangerous trek to find Aimee, his love. Joel is one hundred percent scared to death, but he is more afraid of never having love again. So off he goes! And quickly is almost killed by a monster. Very quickly he meets a dog that is alone too, so they team up to continue the journey together to find Aimee. Along the way he meets Clyde and Minnow (Minnow is like ten years old and has no fear). They teach him the ways of this strange world and how to survive. And miraculously, he makes it to Aimee! But is his true love all he hoped for? You have to watch this campy but fun movie to find out! This scores a 7 out of 10.

Acting – This movie is nothing but fun, so the acting reflects that! Dylan O’Brien does a good job as the scared and somewhat naïve Joel. His best work is the relationship he builds with the dog, and strangely a robot. Clyde is played by Michael Rooker, the perfect role for this veteran tough actor. His performance if flawless as the tough wanderer. And the little girl is Ariana Greenblatt. I’m not sure I’ve seen her in anything before but she is worth talking notice in. Other notable actors in the movie are Jessica Henwick, Dan Ewing, Ellen Hollman and Tre Hale. Look, this is again, not a serious movie so you kind of expect the acting to be a bit on the silly side of things, which it is. Score is 7 out of 10.

Duration – 1 hr 49 mins. A tad long but the action and adventure keeps this movie flowing nicely. You don’t really bat an eye at the length. It is campy and fun, could have seen another giant insect battle or two actually. This gets a 7 out of 10.
