In the Shadow of the Moon – Sci-Fi, Action
Category – Movie
Content – A select number of people die in a very strange way, and it grabs Detective Locke’s full attention. They have strange puncture wounds in the back of the neck, and they essentially bleed out. Tragic events destroy this detective’s current life and he becomes obsessed with this serial killer. While he only sees the serial killer one night every nine years, the film suggests an element of time travel. It is definitely one of those films that wraps everything up in the last ten minutes for the audience to grasp the full circle of the movie. As everything that happens is connected and serves a purpose. The movie has enough intrigue and action to keep it moving along, and it gives you plenty of clues. Maybe you can figure out the circle early? This scores a 7 out of 10.
Acting – The man playing Locke is Boyd Holbrook. He plays the detective turned obsessed man well. And Cleopatra Coleman delivers a great performance as well (every nine years). Two surprises in the movie are Bokeem Woodbine and our own Dexter, Michael C Hall. Rudi Dharmalingam rounds out the cast as the brilliant scientist that will stop at nothing to let this serial killer complete the work. All in all, a good cast for a action filled Sci-Fi movie. Score is 8 out of 10.
Duration – 1 hr 55 min. Now I know we have to get through scenes every nine years, but it does seem a bit long for the content. Cutting out some scenes, or making them shorter for a movie that is about 1 hr 40 minutes would have been better. This gets a 5 out of 10.
