I Know This Much is True – Drama
Category – Television – 6 Part Limited Series on HBO
Content – Twins, Dominick and Thomas. This series begins with Thomas cutting off his right hand in the name of God. We quickly learn that Thomas has serious mental issues, and twin Dominick has been trying to take care of him his entire life. With Thomas now in a mental hospital, Dominick will do anything to get his brother out of this place. But there are a lot of unanswered questions in his life – like Who is their father, What kind of man was their grandfather, and will he ever find happiness and peace? Armed with a manuscript written in Italian, Dominick has this transcribed to English and throughout the series we learn all about his grandfather. And the supposed “curse” on the family name. Although Dominick asks, their step father Ray proves to be little help in answering questions. Through several trials and tribulations, Dominick is able to get Thomas out of this abusive hospital. Although Thomas is safe in the world with his brother, away from the hospital, is this the right path for these twins? And does Dominick ever find the answers to the questions he so desperately seeks? You have to watch to find out! This series is award worthy, I will be hopping on the Emmy train for this one. It is mysterious and intense, all the way to the end. This scores a 9 out of 10.
Acting – Well now, Mark Ruffalo playing a dual role in these twins. One is mentally disturbed and the other lost in life with an anger issue. This would not be an easy task for an actor to portray, but Mark seems to play both roles with ease and comfort. It is like the acting is effortless, and I believe HUGE applause is needed here. The role is definitely Emmy Award winning, my vote will be with Mark Ruffalo on this one! Melissa Leo plays the Birdsey twins mother, and Kathryn Hahn plays Dominick’s ex-wife. Both of these women are fantastic and their acting is also flawless. I’m a big fan of Archie Panjabi, and as the therapist throughout this series, she tries her best to get through to Dominick. The big surprise to me was Rosie O’Donnell. Her supporting character does everything to help both Thomas and Dominick. Everyone does a great job on this series. Score is 9.5 out of 10.
Duration – This is a 6 part Limited Series on HBO. I think all 6 episodes were insightful to this series. Anything longer might have been too much, as the content can be very deep at times. Seems to be just the right amount to get the point across and keep an audience intrigued. This gets a 9 out of 10.
