Honest Thief – Action, Crime
Category – Movie
Content – While we all though Liam Neeson was done with the action crime films, we get Honest Thief. I’m not sure why Liam would ever want to quit this type of movie, it is what he seems to do best. Tom is a bank robber, but when he meets Annie and falls in love, he is willing to trade ALL the money from the robberies, along with his confession, for love. Unfortunately, his calls to seasoned FBI agents Samuel Baker and Sean Meyers falls on deaf ears, they assign young juvenile agents John Nivens and Ramon Hall to check out his story. They need something to collaborate the story, so Tom sends them to a storage unit to get “some” of the robbery money. Since the money is actually there, John convinces Ramon to take the money, kill Tom and get away with the cash scott free. But Tom proves to not be as easy a target as they thought, and the mayhem ensues. It becomes the I’ll Get You film that Neeson is known for. At the same time, it is the same type of film that Neeson is known for. This scores a 6 out of 10.
Acting – While the concept of the film is generic, the acting in most is top notch. Liam Neeson has played this character over and over and has it perfected at this point. Veteran actors Robert Patrick and Jeffrey Donovan prove why they continue to work steadily in Hollywood, flawless performances. Newcomer Anthony Ramos plays Ramon Hall and is good embracing this character. The one that is a bit un believable is Jai Courtney. His character seems seriously flawed and not believable in any way. Not sure who to blame – Jai Courtney or the writer? I’m not sure, but either way it was very underwhelming. Special note of Kate Walsh playing Annie – we haven’t seen her in a movie in a minute and she was great as always! Score is 8.5 out of 10.
Duration – 99 mins. For a shoot em up action film, the timing is fine. The storyline is told in its entirety and you get everything you need. Anything more would have been more of a train wreck than Jai Courtney’s charcter! This gets a 7 out of 10.
TOTAL INDEX for Honest Thief – 21.5 out of 30
