Hell on the Border – Western
Category – Movie
Content – This is an independent Western that depicts the true story of Bass Reeves, and how he becomes the first black deputy US Marshal west of the Mississippi. He sets out with an outlaw to bring in notorious “Bob Dozier”. The movie has good content regarding Bass Reeves; however it can be pretty slow at times. The gun fights and battle scenes are done well and strikes a real interest. Let’s face it, westerns are not easy to do on a lower budget. Hell on the Border gives it a real go though! This scores a 5 out of 10.
Acting – David Gyasi is a new name to me, I cannot recall seeing him as a lead in another movie before. He does a great job playing Bass Reeves. Ron Perlman and Frank Grillo are the 2 outlaws. Again, on a lower budget, a production isn’t going to get top names, I think the casting was done well. Its not a huge cast of names you know, but good enough. Scores a 5 out of 10.
Duration – 1 hr 51 min. This is a bit long, the movie lulls in parts and those scenes could have been cut. This gets a 5 out of 10.
