Escape: Puzzle of Fear – Thriller
Category – Movie
Content – Tyler and his wife Angela come into town to visit his lifetime friend Matthew and his new girlfriend Brittany. Matthew has a huge house, fantastic car and a seemingly perfect life with Brittany. But there is a lot of history between all these couples, and that all comes out through the duration of the film. Secrets begin to unravel though at an escape room. The story of the room and the mysterious details fall a little close to home for these couples. As the rooms become more intense, Matthew seems to be losing his mind and becomes more and more enraged. Towards the end, the revenge plot of this movie is revealed and everything comes to light. I have to admit, I watch a lot of movies and I’m not sure I’ve hated a character as bad as Matthew. Within ten minutes of this movie, the Matthew character is someone that you “hope” is the plot of the revenge and that something bad does happen to him! HAHAHA This scores a 6 out of 10.
Acting – Matthew is played by Tommy Nash, and if the point of the film was for the audience to despise him, then the acting worked. I found myself hoping that this character would meet a gruesome death. The girls are played by Aubrey Reynolds and Naina Michaud. Both do a good job with their roles respectively. And the surprise casting was Tyler, played by Omar Gooding. I cannot remember the last time I’ve seen Omar in a film, but the Gooding family have always been solid actors! Score is 7 out of 10.
Duration – 86 mins. Under 90 minutes and the entire plot line is portrayed. In revenge films, the last thing you want is for them to drag out. I think right around the 90 minute mark is good. This gets a 8 out of 10.
