Emperor – Drama
Category – Movie

Content – A true story based on Shields Green, who becomes known as Emperor. On his plantation, Shields is a supervisor type of slave. But when the owner loses his plantation in a game of poker, the new owner isn’t having any slave in any type of position other than worker. And Shields is punished over another man’s mistake. But when his son is whipped for reading a book, he goes over the edge. He kills the men who hurt his son and then goes on the run. This incredible story takes Shield on a journey that will change his life forever. After meeting people like John Brown and Frederick Douglass, he learns he has become known as Emperor, and has become a legend himself. A true story based on one man’s courage and his will to protect his son, while being hunted at the same time. This scores a 8.5 out of 10.

Acting – I haven’t heard of Dayo Okeniyi who plays Shields Green, but I will definitely remember the name now. He does a remarkable job as the lead of this film and playing a legend. I would enjoy seeing him in future films. Playing John Brown is none other then James Cromwell, a legend in his own right. Another solid performance as always! The surprise performance for me comes from Ben Robson, who is the bounty hunter hired to track down Shields. He does a fantastic job and was entertaining to watch in this role. Other notable actors were Bruce Dern, Kat Graham and MC Gainey. This was just really good performances by all involved. Score is 8.5 out of 10.

Duration – 1 hr 39 min. Any true movie under two hours is a blessing. Most of the time these types of movies go well over two hours. The movie can be a little slow at times, but never too much to become boring. This gets a 8 out of 10.

TOTAL INDEX for Emperor – 25 out of 30

Recommended Watch – Another true story that I had no idea about, so I was happy to have watched it. I think anyone who wants to know how the Civil War started would welcome this film!

OSCAR BUZZ – Well, I had no idea they were going to submit this one for FYC…I liked the story, but not sure I saw Awards when I was watching it? I’m on the fence about this one, we shall have to see what the experts say!
